Safecity about to release the new training package qualifications!

Dear Alarm CCTV Installer,

Safecity has suspended conducting the old training package qualifications courses as they are about to expire.  We do not think it is fair to our students to conduct programs that are about to be superseded in a few months.

The new qualifications for Installers are far more comprehensive than ever before and will involve extensive hands on tuition by experienced installers who are currently working in the industry.

If you would like to be notified when our new qualifications are released, join our Security Technical newsletter.  Your E-mail is classified and will not be sold or released to third parties.  We detest SPAM.

If you are a previous VIP member, please rejoin as the Technical Newsletter is only sent to Installers and Technicians.

GENERAL INTRODUCTION - BENEFITS

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Ask any reputable manufacturer of Alarms and CCTV security systems about the most common cause of false alarms and service failures, and you will be told emphatically

"Poor quality planning and installations carried out by poorly trained installers"

You are also likely to hear

"Low quality alarm systems sold by fly by night traders"

Companies providing alarm responses charge between $20 and $45 per response.  A poor quality alarm or an installation carried out by poorly trained installers (or both) can cost a client up to $2000 a year in false alarms.  This without considering the cost of possible fines, personal inconvenience and annoyance to neighbours.

Safecity recognised these shortcomings in the training of alarm installers since early in 1995.  At that time, we interviewed tutors of existing alarm installer courses and their graduates.  We quickly came to the conclusion that the training offered was grossly inadequate.  The training lacked realism and failed to provide the participants with sufficient hands-on experience.  The training material in these courses was non-existent and often consisted of a few sheets of poorly photocopied outdated handouts from manufacturers.

Shortly after the endorsement of Nationally Recognised Competency Based Training Package for the Security Industry and the arrival of the NSW Security Industry Act 1997, Safecity held several meetings with leading manufacturers of quality Alarm and CCTV equipment with a view of creating a comprehensive training program to support quality Alarm and CCTV equipment.  Safecity Course Designers also held meetings with experienced Alarm Installers and Senior former tutors of competitor's courses.

In September 1999 Safecity aligned the research material gathered to the newly endorsed Training Package for the Security Industry, producing its first Certificate III in Security (Technical Access).
